Jersey is the largest and most southerly of the UK Channel Islands and has over 50 miles of coastline. There are 12 major beaches and many other smaller bays to suit all tastes for both young and old. They are also some of the cleanest in Europe.

There are white sandy beaches on most, apart from a few on the north coast where the weathered dust of granite, granulated from the rocks by centuries of tides gives the sand a rich darkness. Small fishing harbours which tempt you with their heritage, and west coast beaches which face the Atlantic Ocean and are ideal for surfing and windsurfing. In 2005, eleven beaches were granted the Marine Conservation Society's highest award for water cleanliness.

St Ouen Bay - Portelet Bay

St Aubins Bay
A beautiful three mile long bay stretching from St Helier to St Aubin on the south coast of the island and safe for bathing. Popular with Jet Ski, Water Ski and sailing enthusiasts. Numerous parking areas and beach kiosks serving refreshments.

Portelet Bay
Next to St Brelade, this is a small picturesque bay but access for wheel chairs is not easy as access to the beach is via a steep stepped footpath.

St Brelade's Bay
Another of the south facing coast bays and very popular, with fabulous sand and safe for bathing. There are a several shops nearby and good restaurant, bar and hotel facilities.

St Ouen's Bay
Fabulous west coast bay enjoying good sand and waves. Excellent for windsurfing, blokarting and longboarding. Swimming can be hazardous so it is wise to keep within the chequered flags. Toilets at Le Braye and La Pulente slips. Several restaurants and cafes

Plemont Bay
A sandy beach on the north west coast. Great for exploring rock pools. Swimming can be dangerouis because of the fast rising tide. Free parking and good facilities.

Greve de Lecq
A sandy bay on the north coast but gets deep very quickly. Free parking, kiosk, restaurant and shopping facility.

Bonne Nuit Bay
This is a small picturesque fishing harbour with a small beach but because the tide does not venture very far it is easy to dip in the water to cool off.

Bouley Bay
Home to the several yearly car and motorcycle hillclimb events, Bouley Bay is also a small harbour but with swimming facilities.Very popular with scuba and freedivers.

Rozel Bay
Small sandy beach and good for swimming.Restaurant and shopping facilities.

Archirondel
This is a shingle beach on the east coast north of Grouville. Free parking and cafe facilities.

Grouville Bay
A large sandy bay on the south east tip of the island, Grouville is good for bathing. It is enormously popular and so gets more crowded than other bays. Excellent for windsurfing.

La Rocque
On the Grouville headland, this is also a sandy bay and a good area for swimming. However be aware of the fast rising tide, (as seen on the BBC's "999" programme).

St Clements
On the southeast coast, St Clements is a long sandy bay.
